I love the book because it so vividly reminds me of the “miracles” around all of us. Today’s world is fast… with no time to appreciate much of anything. This book lets you see the everyday miracles through Katherine Pinner’s eyes and makes you really appreciate it.These miracles cannot be taken for granted going forward. We can take the “Greatest Moment in Human History” and insure that we protect the environment to keep nature in balance and to keep it nice for our own sake as well.
Ultimately, the book makes me appreciate everything more and makes me want to go out and do more to make my world better.
The Greatest Moment in Human History is a book I would highly recommend for everyone.

Pinner’s book was enjoyable to read from start to finish. I found it to be an awe-inspiring, in-depth, moment to moment examination of how we, as human beings, play a pivotal role in the preservation of our environment. The book succinctly depicts the many ways each of us can make a difference in this world, both as part of a group and as individuals. It's our choice, whether to sustain a planet of fruitful life or devastate it by thoughtless action. For me, Pinner’s declaration says it all “This is the moment we work toward the harmonious and sustainable co-existence of human beings among and within nature on this planet.” Will you accept my challenge to ‘join the conversation’ by doing something meaningful for the environment today?
Inspirational and motivating, this book is a great reminder of the realities that we live and experience every day. There are simple beauties that we often forget about in our fast paced and extremely busy lives. “The Greatest Moment in Human History” invites the reader to be conscious and aware of the beautiful world we live in, and often take for granted. Pinner’s message is logically divided into two sections Explanation & Application. Through explanation, several obvious truths are emphasized regarding the world and how it has changed over the last 100 years. The world’s population, expanding infrastructure and changing climate are just a few of the topics the author explores. Instead of presenting theories or speculation, Pinner sticks to the facts! These truths are carefully laid out in a way that reminds us of the impact we have on our planet.
We are at a pivotal and influential point in history because we have greater tools and technologies than ever before. We can choose to use our collective power for good, or we can choose to ignore it. Pinner elegantly progresses toward a call for action as she carefully lays out the many challenges facing our world today. She offers simple yet effective resolutions. The planet is in a delicate balance, and humans have the knowledge, power and capability to make a significant change. There is deep meaning behind Pinner’s message, and I encourage all to venture on this journey. Reading this book will undoubtedly lead to a greater consciousness and understanding, providing a very enlightening experience. I began wondering, what is the greatest moment in human history? Pinner will lead you there!
Pinner's book is a quick, enjoyable, and inspirational read. As a nature lover and avid outdoorsman, I found it comforting to read on my morning train commute. Pinner touches on many helpful points, but the overall focus is on the evolution of the planet, human nature, and the effect each has on the other. Her goal is reached by helping the reader come to the conclusion that you, as an individual, can have a large impact on everything around you by doing very small, simple acts in areas such as conservation, sustainability, and education. She coins this type of person as an Artist. Pinner explains that it is the Artist's responsibility to take the necessary steps to improve both ourselves and our surroundings. And when every person, idea, and purpose comes together in agreement for the betterment of our society and planet, we will enjoy the realization that inspired the book's title.
I gave this 4/5 stars initially because I am picky. There are some grammatical errors throughout the book. Pinner also mentions statistics without references or other works cited. They are generalized statistics, though, so I don't mind too much. After all, this is not a research report. Pinner does not bore you with technical jargon or other confusing language, which makes the book easy to read, but may come off as simplistic to someone well versed in the sciences. For example, a LEED accredited architect or biologist may quickly lose interest. In a way, though, Pinner's basic approach is the whole point of the book. It doesn't take much to make a difference.
I absolutely loved the two appendix sections. They give the reader a quick reference guide for what we should be asking ourselves and others with regards to changes that can and need to be made. There are two pages of examples for the reader to use to make the world a better place. This is a great addition to the book!
Overall, this is a very good book. It was easy and fun to read, and I would recommend it to anyone. It definitely deserves 5/5 stars.
